Course in Workplace Spotting for Service Assets

Course overview

This public course is designed to provide the required knowledge and skills to conduct workplace spotting for services assets to ensure work tasks being conducted near overhead powerlines or underground assets do not encroach on “No Go Zones”. Participants who successfully complete this accredited training program can become registered as a Spotter by Energy Safe Victoria. This training course provides participants an appropriate level of skills and knowledge to safely observe, maintain the required clearance and direct items of plant working in the vicinity of electrical assets away from the identified assets.

This accredited course is delivered in a face-to-face classroom environment and contains both theory and practical elements.

Classes start at 8am.

Topics Covered
  • Provide a first aid response to a casualty in a workplace setting
  • Ensure safe practice as a spotter
  • Identify and address hazards associated with plant operating close to overhead  and underground assets
  • No Go Zones
  • Undertake prestart activities and safety checks
  • Communicate approach limit information to plant operators
  • Facilitate emergency procedures and activities
  • Identify the operational envelope of plant/machinery

Entry requirements & Pre-requisites

Individuals wishing to undertake this course must:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age and
  • Hold a current competency to ‘Provide First Aid’ (HLTAID011) or equivalent and
  • Hold a current competency to ‘Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation’ (HLTAID009) or equivalent competency; and
  • Hold a Certificate of Competency or WorkSafe ticket for each item of plant that person will be spotting for or
  • Hold a Statement of Attainment / High Risk Licence for Rigging or Dogging

PROOF OF COMPETENCIES MUST BE PRESENTED PRIOR TO ATTENDING COURSE.  IF NO EVIDENCE IS PROVIDED YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE COURSE.

Need to know
  • You must have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language that enables the safe performance of Spotting.
  • You must provide, on the 1st day of training:
    • two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo,
    • copy of current First Aid & CPR
    • copy of Certificate of Competency or WorkSafe ticket for plant
  • Wear comfortable and practical clothing and workbooks. (safety boots preferred)
  • Tea & Coffee is provided.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.
  • All course participants will be provided with a student information book detailing their rights and responsibilities.

Assessments
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) & Credit transfer

Students are able to have their competency for HLTAID011 from prior formal training recognised through mutual recognition and credit transfer. Evidence required includes a certified statement of attainment or testamur and transcript. A check for currency and validity will be carried out in accordance with 1 Stop’s Recognition policy.

Licences & Certification

Student who successfully complete the course will be registered as a Spotter with ESV.

A Spotters ticket is valid for 3 years.

What you will receive

Students who successfully complete the course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment which will include each of the successfully completed units.

A Spotters armband and a wallet sized card by ESV.

Payment terms

Individual Participants

All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.

Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.

Employers/Employment Agencies

Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.

Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.

Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
