Course overview
This course provides crucial safety awareness knowledge to those involved with the loading, unloading, transportation and movement of Plant and freight by road.
Participants will gain an understanding of the main options for restraining loads, ways of calculating how much restraint is required and the safety considerations surrounding load restraint. The knowledge will assist in ensuring loads do not shift or fall off while being transported by road.
This course is delivered in a face-to-face classroom environment and contains both theory and practical elements.
Classes start at 8am.
- Access, interpret and apply load handling documentation and ensure compliance
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- Identify, obtain and implement signage and barriers and ensure the loading/unloading site is made safe and isolated from general traffic flow
- Confirm the dimensions and capacity of the float/trailer to safely carry the plant item
- Position the Plant item on trailer with loading aids and secure with the correct restraining devices
- Confirm the unloading procedure with operator and/or guide before unloading commences
- Place and secure unloading aids, including ramps, in accordance with the trailer/float specifications
- Slacken securing devices and remove in a sequence which optimises safety
- Move the plant item off the trailer/vehicle and halt at the designated position
- Stow loading aids including ramps, bridging materials and securing devices
You must have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language that enables the safe performance of loading and unloading plant.
- You will be required to undertake a LLN skills assessment prior to commencing the course.
- You must provide, on the 1st day of training:
- two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo, one (1) must include current
- At the time of booking, you must disclose any medications or disability which may affect your learning or physical ability to conduct the safe operation of loading and unloading plant
- Wear comfortable and practical clothing and work boots. (safety boots preferred)
- Tea & Coffee is provided.
- Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.
- Upon booking into the course, you will receive a copy of the Student Information Book detailing your rights and responsibilities including our complaints and appeals procedure, a copy is also available on our website.
Competency based assessment practical component requires the participant to successfully complete a series of requested tasks under observation of the assessor, the assessor will then determine a judgement of competency. The knowledge component consists of a written assessment. During the assessment, if the assessor believes your response requires further information or is incorrect, you will be asked further questions to determine the level of your understanding.
Should the participant be deemed not competent, the student has a right to appeal the assessment decision and will be provided with the opportunity to either challenge the assessment or apply for re-assessment within a reasonable time frame. Students have the right to appeal if they are not satisfied with the outcome, according to your rights and responsibilities detailed in the student handbook. Further fees may be applicable for participants that require reassessment.
This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the successful conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment and a wallet sized competency card.
Individual Participants
All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.
Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.
Employers/Employment Agencies
Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.
Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.
Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
