Course overview
This nationally mandated 3-day course is designed for persons new to the temporary traffic management industry.
To be a Traffic Controller and Traffic Management Implementer a student must first sit this 3-day Theory and Practical based course. There is then a mandated requirement for students to gain a minimum of 20 hours logged experience performing Traffic Controller duties and Traffic Management Implementer duties completing at least three different setups on the field in real life conditions.
Students are then required to return to 1 Stop Training for a final Practical Assessment to ensure the skills required have been gained.
This course is delivered in a face-to-face classroom environment and contains both theory and practical elements.
The first two days will focus on the theory aspects of the units with the third day being dedicated to the practical application
This course is delivered in conjunction with a sponsoring company
Classes start at 8am and finish at 4:30pm.
- Preparing to control traffic
- Controlling traffic and operating communication devices
- Conducting housekeeping activities
- Preparing to implement traffic management plan
- Setting out traffic guidance scheme
- Monitoring traffic guidance scheme
- Closing down work activities
Individuals wishing to undertake this course must:
- Provide a copy of your Statement of Attainment or USI print out for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (or equivalent), also known as a White Card.
Due to the above course code (or equivalent) being a pre-requisite, please note that bringing a White Card itself DOES NOT meet entry requirements as the issuance of this White Card may not have been issued against CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or equivalent. (This will be common for students who have held their White Card for over 10 years.)
Acceptable course codes and names are as follows:
- CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
- You must have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language that enables the safe performance of traffic control.
- Be of a fit and healthy nature to be able to complete real-life work activities.
- You will be required to undertake a LLN skills assessment prior to commencing the course.
- You must provide, on the 1st day of training:
- two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo, one (1) must include current address
- At the time of booking, you must disclose any medications or disability which may affect your learning or physical ability to conduct the safe operation of a stop-slow bat whilst standing on uneven ground.
- Wear comfortable and practical clothing and work boots. (safety boots preferred)
- Tea & Coffee is provided.
- Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.
Upon booking into the course, you will receive a copy of the Student Information Book detailing your rights and responsibilities including our complaints and appeals procedure, a copy is also available on our website.

Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
Successful completion of the following three units of competency inclusive of at least 20 hours practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace:
- RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
- RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat
- RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs

Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
Successful completion of the following four units of competency inclusive of practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace, completing at least 3 different types of set ups:
- RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
- RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes
- RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plans
- RIIWHS303 Position, set up and program portable traffic control devices
The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.

This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the successful conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment and a wallet sized competency card.
A TTM ticket is valid for 3 years: refresher courses are available.
Individual Participants
All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.
Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.
Employers/Employment Agencies
Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.
Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.
Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
