Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads

Course overview

These skill sets address the skills and knowledge required for traffic control on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management, and the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic management implementation on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

Delivery of this course will be trainer led and delivered over a two-day program of face-to-face training in a classroom setting combined with skills practice and assessment in a simulated workplace environment.

Each day is focussed on the learning content and the assessment of the theory aspects of the units.

Post Course – Traffic Controller - following a period in which the learner logs 20 hours of practical training experience, not more than six months following the formal instructional sessions of the course, the final practical assessments will be conducted in a live traffic scenario under supervision.

Post Course – Traffic Management Implementer - within a six-month period of completing the theoretical component of the course, the learner will complete three different setups based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to their working conditions.

Classes start at 8am and finish at 4:30pm.

Entry requirements & Pre-requisites

In order to enrol in the course, you must provide the following evidence:

TC2

  • Completion of RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads; and
  • at least 40 hours of experience working in a temporary traffic management workplace in a traffic controller role.

TMI2

  • Completion of the RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads and
  • A minimum of one (1) month experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace and
  • providing evidence of relevant experience (no older than 12 months) setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types including high speed roads or high-volume roads, and at least two of the following types:
    • pedestrian and cyclist controls
    • construction sites
    • lane closures
    • shoulder closures
    • night works
    • use of portable traffic control devices
    • motorways or freeways.
  • You must have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language that enables the safe performance of controlling traffic.
  • In traffic management the learner must be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time and physically meet the requirement to lift up to 15kg in weight when implementing the traffic management plan.
  • It would be expected that a Traffic Controller/Traffic Management implementer has visual accuracy to be able to identify traffic signage on traffic guidance schemes and to visually assess oncoming traffic and sight setup.

Need to know
  • You will be required to undertake a LLN skills assessment prior to commencing the course.
  • You must provide, on the 1st day of training: some text
    • two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo, one (1) must include current address
  • At the time of booking, you must disclose any medications or disability which may affect your learning or physical ability to conduct traffic control safely
  • You will be required to supply the following PE:some text
    • Long sleeved shirts and pants
    • Broad brimmed hat
    • Safety shoes/boots
    • Eye protection/sunglasses
    • Sunscreen
  • Tea & Coffee is provided.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.

Upon booking into the course, you will receive a copy of the Student Information Book detailing your rights and responsibilities including our complaints and appeals procedure, a copy is also available on our website.

Assessments

RIISS00059 Traffic Controller Skill Set for High Volume Roads

Successful completion of the unit of competency RIIWHS207Control traffic on high volume roads, inclusive of at least 20 hours practical training experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace.

The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical training experience is gained. Practical training experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.

RIISS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads

Successful completion of the following two units of competency inclusive of at least three different types of setups and practical training experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace:

  • RIIBEF301D Run on-site operations
  • RIIWHS304 Implement traffic management plans on high volume roads

The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical training experience is gained. Practical training experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) & Credit transfer

Licences & Certification

This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the successful conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment and a wallet sized competency card.

A TTM ticket is valid for 3 years: refresher courses are available.

Individual Participants

All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.

Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.

Employers/Employment Agencies

Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.

Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.

Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
