Agricultural Chemical Users Skill Set

Course overview

This nationally accredited course is applicable to both NSW and Victorian land managers. The course emphasises the correct use, storage and handling of chemicals associated with land management and agricultural production. Undertaking the Chemical Users Course provides participants with the training required by the Department of Environment and Primary Industry for issue of an ACUP (Agricultural Chemical Users Permit) and meets the requirements of most industry Quality Assurance programs.

This course is delivered face to face in a classroom environment.

  • Identifying of pests.
  • Issues associated with chemical use.
  • Understanding and selecting farm chemicals.
  • Transporting and storing chemicals.
  • Risk management and analysis planning for chemical use and application.
  • Cleaning and disposing of farm chemicals.
  • Chemical users record keeping.
Entry requirements & Pre-requisites

There are conditional ACUPs available for applicants aged under 18 years.

You must complete pre-training Review Documentation prior to attending the course.

From 1 January 2024, you need to meet these requirements to be eligible for Skills First subsidised training:

Citizenship

You must be:

  • an Australian citizen, or
  • an Australian permanent resident, or
  • a New Zealand citizen.

Physical Location

You must be physically present in Victoria while participating in training and assessment.

Course limits

Skills First funding is limited to:

  • two courses at a time
  • two skill sets in a year
  • two qualifications in a year.

If you are enrolled at a school, you will not be able to receive a government subsidised training place for a course through Skills First.

Enrolment in this course will count towards one of the qualification limits.

To confirm your Skills First eligibility, you will need to provide documents such as proof of your citizenship or residency, and details about any study you have done.

Need to know
  • You must understand and speak the English language at a level that enables the safe performance of spraying and transporting chemicals.
  • You will be required to undertake some mathematical calculations during the course.
  • You must provide two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo, one (1) must include current address.
  • If applying for a funded position, you will need to supply a copy of your GREEN Medicare card and any concession card you may hold.
  • Wear comfortable and practical clothing
  • Tea & Coffee is provided.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.
  • All course participants will be provided with a copy of the AusChem National AgVet Chemical Users Course handbook.
Assessments

An assessment will be conducted at the conclusion of training in both practical and theory components. Competency based assessment practical component requires the participant to successfully complete a series of requested tasks under observation of the assessor: the assessor will then determine a judgement of competency.

The knowledge component consists of a written assessment. During the assessment, if the assessor believes your response requires further information or is incorrect, you will be asked further questions to determine the level of your understanding.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) & Credit transfer

Licences & Certification

This course is a nationally recognised accredited course and applicants who have successful completed the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment for two units of competency; AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases and AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals. Students will also receive an AusChem AgVet Chemical Users Course Certificate.

It recommended that Victorian participants undertake a refresher course every 5 years.

It is legal requirement for NSW participants to complete a refresher course every 5 years.

Individual Participants

All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.

Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.

Employers/Employment Agencies

Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.

Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.

Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
