Course overview

This public course covers all aspects of entering and working in confined spaces.  Persons attending this course will be instructed in the safe entry, safe work and safe exit of confined spaces having regard to the legislative and operational requirements.  This course is suitable for persons entering, persons on stand-by and issuing persons.  Participants will be provided with both theory and practical components of confined space entry tasks.  This course includes the use of atmospheric equipment and other confined space equipment.  This course does not include breathing apparatus.

This course is delivered face to face in a classroom environment. Practical component is conducted in our confined space container in Bundalong.

Classes start at 8am .

Topics Covered
Entry requirements & Pre-requisites

Individuals wishing to undertake this course must:

  • Be over 17 years of age.
  • Be a resident of Victoria (or have a valid reason for completing your course in Victoria)
  • Students should be aware that this course is physically demanding, requiring a substantial amount of crawling, climbing, bending and lifting.
  • You must have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language at a level that enables you to communicate and work safely in a confined space.

Need to know
  • This course is delivered at our Bundalong office
  • You will be required to undertake a LLN skills assessment prior to commencing the course.
  • You must provide, on the 1st day of training: some text
    • two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo, one (1) must include current address
  • PPE will be provided on the day, however if you have or have access to leather gloves or a high visibility vest or shirt, please bring them with you.
  • At the time of booking, you must disclose any medications or disability which may affect your learning or physical ability to enter and work in a confined space
  • Wear comfortable and practical clothing and work boots. (safety boots preferred)
  • Tea & Coffee is provided.
  • Please bring your lunch with you.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.
  • Upon booking into the course, you will receive a copy of the Student Information Book detailing your rights and responsibilities including our complaints and appeals procedure, a copy is also available on our website.

Assessments

Competency based assessment practical component requires the participant to successfully complete a series of requested tasks under observation of the assessor, the assessor will then determine a judgement of competency. The knowledge component consists of a written assessment. During the assessment, if the assessor believes your response requires further information or is incorrect, you will be asked further questions to determine the level of your understanding.

Should the participant be deemed not competent, the student has a right to appeal the assessment decision and will be provided with the opportunity to either challenge the assessment or apply for re-assessment within a reasonable time frame. Students have the right to appeal if they are not satisfied with the outcome, according to your rights and responsibilities detailed in the student handbook. Further fees may be applicable for participants that require reassessment.

The expected amount of assessment for this course is:

  • 1.5 hours Theory assessment
  • 3 hours of Practical assessment

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) & Credit transfer

Licences & Certification

This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the successful conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment and a wallet sized competency card.

Individual Participants

All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.

Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.

Employers/Employment Agencies

Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.

Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.

Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
