Conduct Civil Construction Grader Operations

Course overview

This assessment only pathway course covers conducting grader operations in the civil construction industry.  It includes: planning and preparing; conducting machine pre-operational checks; operating the machine; selecting, removing and fitting attachments; relocating the machine; carrying out machine operator maintenance; and cleaning up.

This course is delivered in a face-to-face classroom environment and contains both theory and practical elements.

Classes start at 8am.

  • Interpret & apply grader operations documentation to ensure work activity compliance
  • Risk, hazard & environmental identification and implement control measures
  • Identify, obtain & implement traffic management signage
  • Select appropriate equipment & attachments for the task and check for faults
  • Interpret emergency procedures
  • Conduct pre-operational machine checks
  • Operate grader to achieve optimum output
  • Grader operating techniques
  • Remove & fit attachment
  • Select, test and use attachments in accordance with recommendations and design limits
  • Prepare and relocate grader
  • Move grader between worksites
  • Carry out machine operator maintenance
  • Conduct inspection & fault finding
  • Clear work area in accordance with environmental management plan
  • Process records

Entry requirements & Pre-requisites

Individuals wishing to undertake this course must:

  • Have at least 40 hours of experience using a grader.
  • Have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language that enables the safe performance of a grader

Need to know
  • You will be required to undertake a LLN skills assessment prior to commencing the course.
  • At the time of booking, you must disclose any medications or disability which may affect your learning or physical ability to conduct safe operation of plant machinery (including any vision impairment)
  • You must understand and speak the English language and have the ability to conduct Mathematical Calculations at a level that enables the safe operation of plant machinery
  • You must supply your current drivers licence or another form of photo identification
  • You are required to wear comfortable and practical clothing and workbooks
  • Tea & coffee is provided.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.

Assessments

The participant is trained/instructed on each competency, the participant must then demonstrate the ability to perform each criterion and will be progressively assessed. Should the participant be deemed not competent, the student has a right to appeal the assessment decision and will be provided with the opportunity to either challenge the assessment or apply for re-assessment within a reasonable time frame. Students have the right to appeal if they are not satisfied with the outcome, according to your rights and responsibilities detailed in the student handbook. Further fees may be applicable for participants that require reassessment.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) & Credit transfer

Licences & Certification

This course is Nationally Recognised Training and applicants deemed competent at the conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment and wallet sized competency card.

Individual Participants

All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.

Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.

Employers/Employment Agencies

Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.

Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.

Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
