Course overview

This qualification forms part of the criteria involved in becoming a Heavy Vehicle Instructor Training and Assessment for many states in Australia. In Victoria, this qualification is recommended and preferred by many heavy vehicle training providers recruiting trainers and assessors.

The course is presented through face-to-face teaching, self-directed, demonstration and practical exercises in a simulated industry environment.

Topics Covered
Entry requirements & Pre-requisites

Individuals wishing to undertake this course must:

  • Be over 25 years of age with at least 3 years industry experience driving a Heavy Vehicle
  • Possess a current, full and unrestricted Australian heavy vehicle driver’s licence
  • Fulfil all of the relevant state or territory regulatory requirements.
  • Have LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) skills equivalent to Level 3 or higher of the ACSF, which identifies adult English language, literacy and numeracy language indicators of competence.

Need to know
  • You must have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills and understand and speak the English language that enables the safe performance of Heavy Vehicle instruction
  • You must provide, on the 1st day of training:
    • two (2) forms of identification, one (1) must include a photo, one (1) must include current address
  • Wear comfortable and practical clothing and work boots.
  • Tea & Coffee is provided.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the commencement of training.

All course participants have access to a student information book detailing their rights and responsibilities.

Assessments

Each unit of competence will be assessed. All assessments will be based on competency-based training (CBT) principles. A successful outcome for this course will be determined by a range of different assessment methods, including:

  • Assessment of student workbook
  • Written assessment
  • Observation of simulated and practical activities including presentations
  • Structured questioning and discussion
  • Written or verbal questioning at the completion of each session.

Should the participant be deemed not competent, the student has a right to appeal the assessment decision and will be provided with the opportunity to either challenge the assessment or apply for re-assessment within a reasonable time frame. Students have the right to appeal if they are not satisfied with the outcome, according to your rights and responsibilities detailed in the student handbook. Further fees may be applicable for participants that require reassessment.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) & Credit transfer

Licences & Certification

This course is a Nationally Recognised Accredited Course and applicants deemed competent at the successful conclusion of the course will be provided with a Qualification or a Statement of Attainment for the successfully completed units.

Individual Participants

All courses require a position holding deposit of 50%, you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. Payment MUST be received within 48 hours of booking the course or the place can be given to another student. The balance will be required prior to the course commencement date. Facilities include Bank Transfer, EFTPOS, Credit Card or Cash.

Please note there is a 1% surcharge for debit card payment and 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment.

Employers/Employment Agencies

Employers/Employment Agencies will be forwarded an invoice upon receipt of booking form. Unless prior agreement has been made, 1 Stop Training Centre’s payment terms are 14-day from the date of the invoice.

Should payment continue to be outstanding beyond the payment terms as stated above, the customer is responsible for all costs including any legal costs and any other fees that are incurred by 1 Stop Training Centre in recovering any outstanding monies.

Should a participant not attend the course/class on the nominated day(s), full fees for that participant will be charged, unless there have been prior arrangements made with 1 Stop Training Centre.
